Real Madrid came out on top in the latest ‘clasico’, beating arch rivals Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday. Benzema opened the scoring for Real but Barca soon equalised through Lionel Messi, the Argentinian striker equalling the record for the number of goals scored in ‘clasicos’. He joins the legendary Alfredo di Stefano on eighteen.
Barcelona had much of the possession but it was Real who created the best chances and with ten minutes to go, Sergio Ramos headed in what turned out to be the winner.
As the match ended, Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes clashed with the referee and was duly shown a red card.
