Caixabank is anticipating shedding a total of 3,002 staff as part of a restructuring plan following the integration of Banca Civica and the incorporation of the Banco de Valencia. Andalucia is the region most affected by the workforce adjustment with a total of 864 casualties.
Caixabank is hoping that the redundancies can be achieved through retirements, early retirements and voluntary redundancies. If these measures fail or fall short of the target of 3,002 then Caixabank will resort to compulsory redundancies.
The unions have totally rejected any layoffs of surplus staff and are demanding that employees already suspended be reinstated.
