Day of the Cross 2013 – thirteen crosses to visit

A total of thirteen crosses will adorn the streets of Nerja and Maro for the Day of the Cross – Dia de La Cruz – on Friday May 3rd 2013. Ten of the crosses will be in Nerja itself and three in the village of Maro.

This year the crosses are fairly well spread out throughout the municipality and with a few newcomers on the scene. Here is where you will find them.

Calle Jorge Guillén (next to block 10) – Cross of the Asociación de Mujeres Fuente del Badén.

Narixa School (avenida de Pescia) – Cross made by pupils and their parents and made mainly from recycled materials.

Calle Joaquín Herrera – Cross made by the residents of ‘La Maquinilla’.

Calle Brasil – Cross made by local residents.

Calle Pintada – There will be two crosses in calle Pintada, one near the alley connecting Pintada with Plaza de España and one further up at the end of the pedestrianised section of the street.

Calle Diputación – There will be two crosses in calle Diputación, one in the entrance to the Senior Centre and one in the headquarters of Peña La Solea in the Giber de los Rios Centre across the road.

Calle Chaparil – Cross made by the Peña Nerjeña.

Balcón de Europa – The municipal cross will be located on the Balcón de Europa and this year will be made by the Asociación de Vecinos de la barriada de La Protegidas.

Social Centre, Maro – Cross made by the Marocueva Seniors Association.

Multi-purpose Centre, Maro – Cross made by the Peña Mareña.

Hotel Playa Maro, Maro – Cross made by the Dance Group ‘Cristian’.
