The power company Endesa is carrying out improvement works on eight medium voltage power lines of the Nerja substation, a project costing €45,000 which will result in improved service and better, more modern security for around 22,500 local residents.
The new protection systems should provide better security in the event of problems with the electricity network. The old system is electro-mechanical, the new system is digital.
The Nerja substation will also benefit from the Integrated Control and Protection System (SICP), a tool that facilitates more control over the installation by connecting to the Network Operation Centre in Sevilla. This means that when incidents occur, the electric supply lines can be readily redirected without the need to send out technicians, thus reducing the length of any power outages.
These improvements will be carried out in the next few weeks.
