Work starts in Cádiz to replace stolen cables

A number of districts of Cádiz have been without public lighting for several months following a series of thefts of copper cable by organised gangs.

The gangs have stolen around 6,000 tons of copper cable leaving many areas in the dark. Work has now started on replacing the cable and introducing security features to prevent further thefts and it is anticipated that things could be back to normal in around seven weeks.

In total about one-third of Cádiz has been affected by the thefts.
