The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has described the environmental policy of the Junta de Andalucia with respect to Maro-Cerro Gordo as ‘truly irresponsible’ after the provincial Minister of Environment announced it would extend the protection afforded the area. So no building hotels.
The Mayor added that the failure to approve the Plan for the Management of the Natural Resources of Cerro-Gordo, compiled in 1989, shows that the regional authority has little interest in the environment of the area.
