Today, Wednesday January 1st 2014, is the beginning of the end for the refillable olive oil containers in bars and restaurants, a move applauded by the oil producers but criticised by restaurateurs.
The decree comes into effect today and the catering industry has until February 28th to comply. Olive oil may now only be served in non-refillable containers which are suitably branded.
Some restaurants have already started complying with the new rule but most cafes and bars are still analysing the cost associated with the change.
