A 25-year-old French girl died in Madrid on New Year’s Eve after snorting heroin, the only serious incident in the city during the festivities.
The SAMUR Civil Protection attended 189 incidents, roughly the same as last year. Of these, 5 related to accidents, 42 to fights and 30 related to intoxication.
The Fire Brigade were called out 51 times to fires in containers and to one burning car, but no house fires this year.
The Municipal Police made 838 interventions, well up on last year’s total of 626.
In the one major incident, SAMUR were called to a house in calle de Mesón de Paredes, in Lavapiésa, where a 25-year-old French woman and her 23-year-old compatriot had apparently been snorting heroin.
The woman was rushed to the Hospital Clínico but died shortly after. The man was taken to the Fundación Jiménez Díaz where his condition is described as ‘serious’.
