Prisoner arrested for committing robberies while ‘on leave’

A 42-year-old Nerja resident, S.J.J.M, has been arrested on suspicion of committing four robberies while ‘on leave’ from prison.

The operation, codenamed ‘Viudo’, began on January 25th as police tried to identify an individual who had sold some copper wire, stolen from El Playazo, to a recycling plant.

The individual was arrested and further investigation led to the recovery of laptops, phones, jewellery and other items stolen from homes in the area. In addition to being charged with four counts of robbery, the detainee has been charged with breach of conviction.
