Thirty arrests in yet another corruption scandal

A new police operation against political corruption has led to the arrest on Tuesday of 30 people in 13 provinces in Spain.

The target of the operation is an alleged criminal network dedicated to rigging contracts relating to parks and garden maintenance and the detainees include politicians, public employees and technicians.

The arrests took place in Sevilla, Cordoba, Jaén, Huelva, Cádiz, Granada, Badajoz, Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Lanzarote and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The detainees face charges of offences against public administrations, money laundering, price fixing in a public tender, commercial document fraud, public tax offences and belonging to a criminal organization.

This latest operation, codenamed Enredadera, follows a string of other recent high profile corruption cases involving politicians and businessmen in Spain.
