Some carriages of a RENFE high-speed train travelling within the Malaga province derailed, causing injury to four passengers.
Heavy rainfall added to the challenge as nearly 20 inches of mud made accessing the carriages difficult for rescue teams, where the Guardia civil, volunteers and firefighters collaborated to reach passengers.
Four passengers and then conductor of the train suffered minor injuries.
A full investigation is being carried out although it is suspected that the heavy rainfall had compromised the track conditions.
