Beach cleaning

A new, unified approach to the cleaning of beaches and coastal waters comes into operation this year, a project which is costing €5.8 million and will see the number of cleaning boats reduced from last year’s figure of 30 to 25.

Clean-up time in Vélez-Málaga

Work has begun to clean and disinfect the 22 kilometres of Vélez-Málaga coastline in preparation for the anticipated Easter rush. Eleven staff with two beach cleaning machines are involved in the operation.

Clean bottom

Divers from Buceo Costa Nerja on Burriana beach completed the bottom cleaning exercise yesterday, removing 122 kilos of rubbish from the sea bed along five beaches. Last year was over 300 kilos of rubbish was removed, so it looks like people are becoming a little more considerate.

Nerja getting its bottom cleaned again today

The fourth ‘bottom cleaning’ exercise should take place today, having been postponed from September 28th due to adverse sea conditions. The clearing of the sea bed is organised by Bernabé Jorge, director of the Diving Centre on Burriana beach (Buceo Costa Nerja), and will be carried out by 100 volunteer divers. Mancomunidad awards beach contracts

The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol-Axarquía has awarded the contracts for installing various pieces of beach equipment in the district, a project budgeted at €444,000.
