Blue Flags 2012

Spain has been awarded a total of 638 Blue Flags, 540 for beaches and 98 for marinas, a new record which puts Spain at the top of the list of 46 participating states in the northern hemisphere.

‘Q’ flags officially presented

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, was one of the many dignitaries attending the annual ceremony yesterday to officially award the ‘Q’ for ‘Quality’ flags to 174 Spanish beaches, including Burriana and Torrecilla in Nerja.

Out and about May 8th 2012

It started out clear and sunny this morning but the afternoon saw a bit of a offshore sea mist drift in and then everything became hazy before eventually clouding over completely.

Repairs to Torrox beaches resume again

The lorries full of sand are once again heading to Torrox Costa after the latest operation to repair the beaches had to be called off on Friday due to heavy seas.

Four Blue Flags again for Nerja

Nerja has, for the second year running, notched up four EU ‘Blue Flags’ for its beaches, only being surpassed by Roquetas (Almeria) with six and Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) with five.

Beach improvements

Ready for the Easter and summer holiday periods, three defibrillators are going to be made available, one on Burriana beach, one on Torrecilla beach and one mobile unit. There are also plans to build 250 cycle racks at the various beaches in Nerja as, according to the Council, more and more people are using bicycles.

New toilets for Torrox beaches

The Councillor for Tourism in Torrox, José Pérez (PSA), has been visiting Ferrara Playa to supervise the installation of new toilet facilities.

The summer season

The summer beach season (when lifeguard services are available) was extended from September 15th to September 30th this year, and during that time, the ‘green’ flag flew for 85% of the time, the ‘yellow’ flag for 11% and the ‘red’ flag for just 4% of the time.

Beaches, TDT and Day of the Tourist…

The temperatures may have plummeted a couple of degrees but it is still hot and there is still no wind to speak of. The main noticeable difference with the onset of September is, of course, the ability to actually find a parking space should you so desire.
