Christmas and New Year are on the horizon, so we’ll try and keep you posted on any special meals or events taking place. First up, the Saloon on avenida Castilla Perez is advertising traditional Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings for December 25th. Always excellent food at The Saloon.

Christmas toy campaign a great success

The toy collection campaign organised by the Spanish Red Cross in Vélez-Málaga has been deemed a great success, the organisation being able to deliver gifts to 180 children up to the age of 14 years in the Axarquia region.

Christmas alcohol controls in Fuengirola

Local Police in Fuengirola carried out over 100 breath tests over the Christmas period at 14 control points throughout the town. Around 4% of those tested produced a positive result for excessive alcohol levels.

Laura Navas wins the pastry competition

The dough punchers were out in force in Maro at the weekend for the Christmas Rosco and Pastry competition with no less than 18 entries to be tasted and judged. The winner was Laura Navas with a creation called ‘Red Velvet’, a pastry based upon three cheeses and decorated with edible flowers and rolled wafers.

Possible strikes at Iberia in the run-up to Christmas

Unions representing cabin crew and ground staff at Iberia are threatening to hold a six-day strike just ahead of the Christmas holiday period in protest against restructuring plan imposed on the loss-making airline by its parent company IAG. The restructuring plans involves as many as 4,500 job cuts, about 23% of the workforce.

I suppose it was to be expected, everything else gets studied. A study into happiness levels on December 25th shows most people are so worried about things running smoothly they don’t truly enjoy themselves until early afternoon. And the time that people are the most happy (so you can plan ahead)?
