El Atracon on calle Los Huertos, the only buffet-style bar/restaurant/cafeteria in Nerja, has closed down. The estate agent Multigesa in avenida Mediterraneo appears to have gone, the premises currently being gutted.
More volcanic ash causes airport closures
Fresh activity from the volcano in Iceland has caused the closure this morning of 15 airports in Spain: Bilbao, San Sebastian, Vitoria, Zaragoza, Pamplona, La Rioja, Santiago, La Coruna, Vigo, Asturias, Santander, Leon, Valladolid, Burgos and Salamanca.
More closures
A couple more closures to relate. The small fresh drinks shop in calle Puerta del Mar has closed, as has the menswear shop in calle Málaga. Both had been around for quite a while.
Arrivals and departures
Businesses in Nerja continue to come and go on a regular basis, hardly surprising under the present economic crisis. In calle El Barrio, the former Andalucia Soap Company which then, for a short while, became Olíbano, has now closed after having a final clearance sale.
Two factories close in Huelva
The fertiliser company Fertiberia has closed two of its plants in the Huelva estuary. The closure affects 70 of its 370 staff although the company has not yet filed the necessary papers for employment regulation.
Torraspapel to close two production sites
The group Torraspapel is closing its two production sites in Algeciras (Cádiz) and Amorebieta (Vizcaya), a measure which will affect about 400 workers. The company is also planning a ‘restructuring’ of its site in Sarriá de Ter (Girona).
