La Loca Carmela (formerly Bar Alameda)in calle Jaén, Nerja, has closed after a very short existence. A quick recap on some of the bars and restaurants which have disappeared during the past six months or so in case any are on your list of former favourites.
The Boathouse closes
The Boathouse bar on the corner of calle Mèrida and avenida Mediterraneo in Nerja has closed down. La Biznaga on the Balcón de Europa has closed for ‘the season’ and will open again in the spring.
Parador winter closures and reduced staffing levels
The Parador in Ayamonte, Huelva, will close temporarily on Monday November 4th, reopening again on March 1st for the new summer season. Likewise, the Parador in Cazorla, Jaén, will close on November 17th.
Agreement reached on Parador layoffs
Management and unions at the Paradores de Turismo have reached an agreement on employment regulation (ERE) for 350 staff and the closure of the Parador de Puerto Lumbreras in Murcia. The agreement was reached after eleven hours of negotiation.
La Capilla del Mar closed for holidays
La Capilla del Mar on calle La Cruz, Nerja, is closed for holidays until New Year’s Eve. The restaurant is fully booked for New Year. La Rosaleda and Diamante Azul, next door to each other on avenida Mediterraneo, Nerja, have closed down.
20% of bars in Andalucia have closed during the past three years
During the period 2008 to 2011, one in five bars and restaurants in Andalucia have closed, according to the Department of Economic Research and Analysis of La Caixa. Andalucia remains the region in Spain with the most bars, 47,003.
PC City closes today in Andalucia
The three stores in Andalucia belonging to PC City are closing down today, these not being amongst the eight outlets being taken over by the Portuguese group Sonae.
More closures
Bar Avenida on avenida Pescia (near the police station) has closed down, as has D Rita in calle Pintada and the small bar/cafe El Pasaje in pasaje Cantarero which used to do some delicious churros. The Acorn Inn on avenida Castilla Perez has closed again as has the restaurant Il Bambino on the same street.
Crisis claims over 4,000 businesses in Málaga province
During the past two years of the economic crisis, around 10,300 businesses have ceased trading in the region of Andalucia with 4,100 (39.8%) of these being in Málaga province.
A couple of closures…
The second hand furniture shop, which also boasted the best tapas, near Supersol has closed down. It also looks like the internet cafe next to the Hotel Puerta del Mar in calle Gomez has also closed or is in the process of closing.
