The Council is calling upon the Ministry of Works and Housing of the Junta de Andalucia to pay the outstanding amounts from the 2008 Autonomous Housing Rehabilitation Programme, a scheme whereby local residents, particularly the elderly, unemployed and disabled, would receive financial assistance for essential home renovations.
Nine arrested for defrauding the Junta de Andalucia
Nine people have been arrested on charges of defrauding the Junta de Andalucia of €480,000 in grants relating to the hiring of disabled staff.
New library for Torrox Costa
The Cultural Department of Torrox Council has received two grants totalling €18,000, part of this sum going towards the cost of a new library.
Grants for vehicles
In the first part of this year, the provincial authorities have issued grants totalling €121,800 to municipalities in the Axarquia for the purchasing of vehicles.
Grants for local Associations
The Nerja Caves Foundation is offering economic grants to local Associations who are fully legalised. Applications can be made from now until March 31st 2009. Applications forms and further information can be collected at the Nerja Caves or at the Nerja Foreigners Department at the Town Hall. Completed applications should be presented at the Nerja Caves Office.
Increased grants for renovation of properties for rental
The regional Ministry of Housing has announced plans for a new series of grants for the renovation of rental properties. To qualify, house owners must rent out the property after renovation for a period of at least five years.
