Eleven arrested for drug trafficking

A joint operation between the Guardia Civil and National Police in Almeria has resulted in the arrest of eleven members of a gang trafficking in drugs and smuggling immigrants into Spain and the seizure of 2.4 tones of hashish.

Immigrants intercepted off San José, Almeria

A small boat carrying 22 economic migrants was intercepted las night about ten miles off San José in Almeria. The 21 men and 1 woman were in good health and are now in the care of the National Police.

Four illegal immigrants transferred to hospital

Four of the fifty-seven sub-Saharans intercepted near the isla de Alborán yesterday were transferred to hospital upon arrival in Motril. Two pregnant women were taken to hospital for routine medical cecks and two men required treatment for injuries to their legs.

49 immigrants intercepted off the Granada coast

On Thursday night, Marine Rescue and the Guardia Civil intercepted a boat carrying 49 people, including 42 children, about seven miles from Castell de Ferro, Granada province.

According to the Minister for Equality and Social Welfare, Micaela Navarro, there are 4,000 prostitutes in Andalucia and 300,000 in the country as a whole, 90% of whom are immigrants whose status in the country is irregular.

Swiss vote to deport convicted immigrants

The Swiss have voted in favour of a referendum proposal for the automatic expulsion of non-Swiss citizens for certain crimes, with 53% agreeing that those convicted of crimes ranging from benefit fraud to murder should be deported.

Five police officers indicted in Málaga
