Málaga Council to support the Nerja Caves as World Heritage Site

Málaga Council has approved a motion by the PSOE for institutional dialogue between Nerja Council, the Association of Municipalities of the Axarquia and the Junta de Andalucía to promote the inclusion of the Nerja Caves as part of the application to UNESCO relating to World Heritage Sites.

Nerja Caves on TV later this month

Plenty of interest in Nerja by the TV companies at the moment. On Friday, a crew from TVE’s Comando Actualidad programme were in town to record scenes on the Balcón de Europa, on various beaches and inside the Nerja Caves.

Nerja Caves Foundation accounts back on an even keel

The plenary session of the Nerja Caves Foundation has approved the audit of the accounts for 2012, with a small surplus of €36,057.71. In 2011, the Foundation registered a loss of €193,164.20.

New plants for the Nerja Caves tropical garden

The tropical garden in the grounds of the Nerja Caves has been refreshed with new plants and students from the Centro Específico de Educación Especial Santa Rosa de Lima in Málaga have made the identification labels. The tropical garden was opened on November 13th 1997.

Guided tours of the Nerja Caves

A group of Latin American journalists have been amongst those taking advantage of the ‘out of hours’ guided tours being offered by the Nerja Caves up until the end of June.

The Nerja Caves was represented at the  International Tourism, Art and Culture Fair of Latin America and Europe (Euroal), which took place in Torremolinos from June 6th to 8th. Attending the event were more than 2,500 professionals accredited to 39 international business organisations and institutional delegations.

Curator of the Nerja Caves Foundation dismissed

Following an extraordinary meeting of the board of the Nerja Caves Foundation, the Curator of the Foundation has been dismissed for manipulating information with the obvious intention of causing harm to the image and prestige of the institution.

Reduced capacity for the Caves Concerts in July 2013

The plenary session of the Nerja Caves Foundation has decided to close the metal gallery stand in the Sala de la Cascada with the idea of permanently removing it in the near future. However, as with most things, this is not a straightforward procedure.

Guided visits to the caves in the company of ‘Tito’

The Nerja Caves is offering a new experience for visitors, with groups of up to fifty people able to enjoy a guided tour of the caverns in the company of actor Miguel Joven, famous for his role as ‘Tito’ in the popular TV series Verano Azul.
