Three rotten bolts caused ski lift accident in March

A report based on visual observations by members of the criminology laboratory of the Guardia Civil in Granada states that the accident involving one of the ski lifts at the Sierra Nevada ski station was caused by three broken bolts on the clamping mechanism of the pulley arm.

Good holiday period for the Sierra Nevada ski resort

Despite pretty good weather along the coast over the holiday period and the Semana Santa celebrations, the Sierra Nevada ski station has been doing very well. Hotel occupancy has been at just over 70% and between 5,000 and 6,000 people have been visiting the resort each day.

Sierra Nevada ski station reopens

The Sierra Nevada ski station is open again after three days of bad weather forced it to close. There are 17 kilometres of skiable pistes open and nine lifts in operation. The snow is a minimum of one metre in many areas. Access to the resort is clear but it is recommended to use snow chains on the A-395.

Sierra Nevada ski station hopes to reopen on Saturday

High winds, rain and dense fog caused the Sierra Nevada ski station to remain closed all day Friday. Winds were gusting up to 100 kph throughout the resort and general visibility was poor. The management of the resort, CETURSA, are expecting conditions to improve during Saturday and allow the station to reopen.

First snow in the Sierra Nevadas

This morning saw the first snows of autumn at the ski station in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Granada province. The snowfall left a covering of about 2 cm from around 2,300 metres.
