Madrid airport reopens

Madrid’s Barajas airport reopened at 17:00 on Friday afternoon, five hours after having to suspend all flights due to heavy snow. Roads were absolutely blocked around the capital and the only way to get to the airport was by metro.

Madrid’s Barajas airport suspended operations at 11:50 this morning due to adverse weather conditions including heavy snowfalls. The suspension is only temporary and measures are being taken to clear away the snow, but anyone flying from Barajas today should check with their travel agent to confirm the latest situation.

Couple rescued from isolated cottage

A couple in their sixties have been rescued from their home near Nigüelas, Granada province, where they had been stranded since Saturday due to heavy snowfalls.

Local goings on…

A nice covering of snow on the hills this morning. Quite a few of the more distant hills are covered in the white stuff, looks quite nice actually, just a pity it has to be nippy with it! Quite a police presence outside the Town Hall, Guardia Civil and Local Police, but no sign of any protesters.

First snow in the Sierra Nevadas

This morning saw the first snows of autumn at the ski station in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Granada province. The snowfall left a covering of about 2 cm from around 2,300 metres.
