El Chucho promenade project postponed

The Nerja Council and the Department of Coasts have agreed to postpone the proposed installation of a promenade at El Chucho beach until after the summer season.

The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, and the Councillor for beaches, Jonathan Méndez, were in Madrid on Tuesday for talks aimed at trying to resolve some of the outstanding issues in Nerja, namely reopening of the Paseo Los Carabineros, the definitive stabilization of the beach at La Torrecilla and improving access to the beaches of Maro, El Cañuelo and La Alberquilla.

The decision to postpone the El Chucho project was taken so as to avoid disruption during the busy summer months as the scheduled completion period of the works is six months. The work will now begin on October 1st for completion in March 2009.

The El Chucho project, with a budget of €743,000, includes the construction of a promenade 285 metres long and 5 metres wide and it will effectively join up Torrecilla beach and El Playazo beach.
