Mayor of Sierra de Yeguas expelled from the Partido Popular

The Partido Popular has expelled the mayor of Sierra de Yeguas and is demanding his resignation from his post.

The mayor, Rafael Sánchez Lavado, has been accused of sexual harassment towards first deputy mayor Josefa Torres. The party has stated that such conduct is totally unacceptable and has demanded his immediate resignation.

It seems that telephone conversations between the mayor and his first deputy were recorded and clearly show the harassment she has been suffering.

The mayor is no stranger to controversy. In 2007 he was sentenced to one year in prison for beating up a man, an incident which occurred back in 2003. However, the jail sentence was subsequently converted into a fine.
