Things continue to move rapidly as the Council unanimously approves a motion to award recognition to the five discoverers of the Nerja Caves in 1959, an event which changed Nerja forever.
The five boys, as they were then, who made this momentous discovery were Miguel Muñoz, José Luis Barbero (now deceased), José Torres, Francisco Navas and Manuel Muñoz.
The Council approved a motion to award the Municipal Golden Shield to these local ‘heroes’. Had they been singers in a talent contest, they would have no doubt received the honour a few days after the discovery.
