A weekly street market for Nerja?

A weekly street market in the centre of Nerja, designed to boost the local economy, is an idea being proposed by the CCAN (Centro Comercial Abierto de Nerja) and the AEN (Asociación de Empresarios de Nerja).

The idea is a small street market, maybe at the bottom of calle Pintada, to be held each Saturday. The intention would be to keep it fairly small, not occupying the whole street area, but it could ‘spread’ to other areas or streets. The stallholders would be local shops and businesses.

It is being stressed that this idea would in no way compete or conflict with the soon to be restarted Tuesday market! This idea has apparently been under consideration for some time.

Funny, eh?! Of course this new market (solo para nerjeños) will in NO WAY compete with the tuesday market, course this has “casually” been deported to the outskirts 10 months ago, and the 200 families (who are not from Nerja) have been severely repressed. It’s just plain coincidence, that this idea is published 4 days before the tuesday market traders set up in Almijara, under threat, that our licences will be retired if they don’t… ha,ha,ha, believe it if you can

  3. Well! What goes round, comes round. Not many years ago, the most successful market in Nerja used to be in the STREETS. It DOES take a long time for commonsense to seep into the brains of some people. Maybe we will see a decent market in Nerja again soon.

Is this the first chink of light of common sense, I don`t think so, the local council have not got broad enough shoulders to admit that they have got it wrong, but, they say, the idea of a new street market is theirs. It is time for the council to put the shovel down and climb out of the rather large hole that they are digging for themselves.
