The Rincón initiative

Entrepreneurs in Rincón de la Victoria are the latest to request more flexibility with regard to the opening times of bars and restaurants as a means of stimulating the local economy.

Owners have got together to form the Hospitality Association of the Municipality of Rincón de la Victoria (AEHMURV) and in the first month of its existence, it has attracted 47 members.

The aim of the group is to unite and modernise the hostelry sector, which has around 200 establishments and generates employment for several thousand people. The group is asking for extended opening hours for bars, particularly during the weekends in the summer. Bars currently have to close at 02:30.

The group is also looking at the possibility of standardising ‘bar furnishings’, such as parasols, tables and awnings, but this is not something they believe can be achieved in the short term and may take several years to implement.

The first major initiative of this new group is a Mediterranean cooking course to be held between May 11th and May 19th. Twenty professionals will teach new techniques for the making of traditional dishes. The idea is to illustrate ways of attracting customers without the necessity of having to invest large sums of cash.
