Assessing the storm damage

Today, several towns in Andalucía are assessing the damage caused by the recent storms in parts of the region.

Up to 30 litres of water per square metre were recorded in Ronda yesterday, causing the flooding of homes, underground garages, shops and businesses.

In Villacarrillo, Jaén province, residents are busy trying to remove the mud from their homes and businesses but one of the main concerns is the damage caused to the olive crop. It is thought that arbout 2,000 hectares of olives could have been damaged or destroyed by the storms.

In Orce and Guadix, Granada province, many rural roads are impassable and in Montilla, Córdoba province, there are fears that the vineyards have been damaged by torrential rain.

In Almedinilla, some 2,000 residents are now without drinking water as a result of damage caused by the storms.
