Doubts over sewage plant

The Councillor for Infrastructure, José Alberto Tomé (PP), has once again stated that the Council is fed up with being teased and constantly told that the contract for a sewage plant will be tendered ‘this year’, something which has been occurring regularly since 2001 when the Council made land available for the plant.

The Councillor pointed out that last week the leader of the PSOE in Málaga, Luis Tomás, stated that the tendering process would begin in 2010. He also pointed out that an earlier statement by the Minister of Environment stated that the tendering process would be difficult in 2010 and unlikely to happen.

The Councillor did admit that in 2001, under the Aznar government, they did have the opportunity to sign an agreement for the construction of a sewage plant but turned this down. This was partly due to the fact that the project was for a small, open sewage plant similar to the one in Mijas and the Council wanted a larger, closed plant.

He added that the problems encountered in Mijas vindicated this decision and to have gone ahead would have been a mistake.
