The Nerja IU has criticised the decision by Local Police officers to remove two Republican flags put up near the Puente Viejo on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the Second Republic.
The IU claimed that the flags were removed despite the fact that they had notified the authorities in advance and in writing that they would be carrying out this act. The IU describe the police action as a violation of their constitutional rights.
The Councillor for Police, Jonathan Méndez (PP), justified the withdrawal of the flags on the grounds that they constituted a traffic hazard.
