Work on the new sports and athletics stadium in Cártama is already one year behind schedule, but the Council has approved a motion to engage a new contractor to finish the project and is hoping that work can resume on the facility.
The foundation stone was laid in January 2009 but there were then immediate problems relating to the plans and worked ceased.
Work later resumed but, with the structure only 50% complete, the contractor ran into financial difficulties and work stopped once more.
However, being almost 50% complete, the law allows the Council to engage a new contractor without too many bureaucratic difficulties. This should get things moving again before too long.
The total budget for the project is €2.7 million.
