Maro and the Barriada de Las Protegidas area of Nerja celebrated, on Thursday February 3rd, the festival of San Blas with the blessing of bread.
According to tradition, San Blas is known for his miraculous healing of both people and animals. His saving of the life of a child who was choking on a fishbone is the origin of this ‘blessing of the throats’ festival, held each year on February 3rd.
At the Iglesia San Miguel in Las Protegidas, it was a blessing of the traditional bagels. At the iglesia de Las Maravillas in Maro, it was traditional donuts, fritters and hot chocolate.
