Two suspected ETA members have been detained in France following the shooting of a French gendarme at a police control point.
The two men, identified as Itziar Moreno and Oier Gómez Mielgo, failed to stop at a police control point near the town of Vallières in the French department of Creuse, shooting and injuring a police officer as they made their escape.
Their vehicle was later intercepted, but once again they managed to escape, this time on foot. They were arrested after an exchange of gunfire near the town of Croze and are now being transferred to Paris.
Itziar Moreno is wanted in connection with the placing of a car bomb at the EITB centre in Bilbao, a building housing the Antena 3, El Mundo, Marca, Expansión, Catalunya Radio and Onda Cero media companies. The bombing took place on December 31st 2008.
Oier Gómez Mielgo is on the ‘most wanted’ list of ETA suspects.
