The case of the half-eaten chocolate bar

A 14 year old in Mijas has been charged with ‘misappropriation’ after munching half a chocolate bar intended as a gift for someone else but delivered to the girl’s house by mistake by a courier service.

The chocolate bar was part of a birthday gift from a man in Fuengirola to his wife, with various pieces of chocolate in a white box spelling out ‘happy birthday’.

The man called the courier to find out where his package was and was told that it had been delivered, to which the man replied that there must have been a mistake because nothing had arrived. Realising that a mistake had in fact been made, the courier went back to the girl’s house to retrieve the misdirected package.

The girl admitted she had eaten half the chocolate but handed the remainder over to the courier as requested. The package was then delivered to the correct address.

However, the man who had ordered the chocolate was none too pleased that half of it had been eaten and lodged a complaint with the police, resulting in the girl being charged with misappropriation.

In her defence, the girl apparently argued that because it was her mum’s birthday soon, she though the package was intended for her.
