It has been revealed that an inmate in the Puerto II prison in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz province, managed to escape last Thursday.
The prisoner, 29 year old Rafael P.C. from Chiclana de la Frontera, had been remanded in custody on charges of robbery. He was not considered dangerous and his conduct in prison had been good, until he escaped.
At 17:00 on Thursday, taking advantage of the fact that there were only two guards on duty in the module, which houses 80 inmates, the prisoner managed to get up onto the roof from an interior courtyard and then slid down a six metre high wall to freedom.
His absence was detected three hours later during a routine headcount.
