A lightning strike in the early hours of Saturday morning in La Rabida in the centre of Rábida Palos de la Frontera, Hiuelva, started a fire on some scrub land necessitating the evacuation of fifty families from their homes.
The lightning strike occurred at 01:30 and started a fire near a group of houses. There was some panic in the area as fire and thick smoke quickly spread through the area and cut off the access road.
Firemen, Guardia Civil and Infocid officers evacuated people from their homes while the fire was being extinguished.
No buildings were damaged by the fire but several homes did suffer damage to garden furniture.
There were also some problems for people attending a concert by Russian Red and Iván Ferreiro in La Rabida after they were prevented from leaving until the situation was under control.
Once the blaze had been extinguished, the evacuees were allowed to return to their homes.
