More complaints about sewage leaks

Residents near the mouth of the (currently dried-up) rio Chillar near El Chucho and El Playazo beaches have once again been complaining about the discharge of raw sewage in the area.

The complaints have been ongoing for several years and despite the best efforts of the Council to resolve the problem (?), the problem persists. The situation is made worse by the absence of a sewage treatment plant and the increase in population during the summer.

At almost any time of year one can amble along the rio Chillar walkway and see (and smell) the sewage.

Much of the problem apparently relates to the illegal connection of sewage pipes in homes to the storm water drainage system. Surely, in this technological age, it must be possible to locate to trace the culprits and fix the problem once and for all.

Merely threatening to fine people IF they get caught is not a solution to the problem.
