Mobile phone antennas in Vélez-Málaga

Vélez-Málaga Council is hoping to bring some sort of order into the chaos relating to mobile phone antennas, with only 5 of the 72 towers on the municipal inventory actually being licenced installations.

There are 12 antennas currently being analysed by municipal technicians to see if emissions conform to the prevailing law, 23 have already been rejected for violation of municipal ordinances and will have to be removed and 32 are still pending a final resolution.

The whole operation is expected to be finished by the end of the year and, if some antennas do actually get removed, it could lead to loss of coverage in some areas of the municipality.

Although the Council assures residents it intends to be ‘very strict’ in its controls relating to emissions and in enforcing compliance with municipal ordinances, most of the 23 rejected antennas continue to operate.
