The Taller de la Amsitad is organising a demonstration in Nerja next Friday to highlight their plight as the Junta de Andalucia’s continual failure to pay its debts threatens to put them in a critical financial position.
Taller de la Amsitad, founded in 1996 and declared a public utility in 2011, helps those with intellectual problems and provides secure employment for 28 people. The organisation receives its funding from a number of sources, but one of the most important is the ministries of the Junta de la Andalucia.
The failure of the Junta de Andalucia, which owes around €160,000 to Taller de la Amistad, to honour its commitments could lead to the closure of the organisation. This would affect around 200 people in the Axarquia with mental problems who are reliant upon their support, as well as the families of those people.
The demonstration will begin at 19:00 from the headquarters of the organisation and end at the Balcón de Europa.
