Police have arrested 35 year old A.C.C., a resident of Ayamonte (Huelva) and director of the Brotherhood of Carmen on suspicion of stealing jewellery valued at €5,000 from two of the religious images in the local church.
The theft took place on November 30th with jewellery, mostly donated by local parishioners, being taken from the statues of the Virgen del Carmen and San Antonio de Padua.
There was no sign of forced entry into the chapel which led to the theory that the robbery was an inside job. The detainee, one of the managers of the Brotherhood of Carmen, was one of the few people with a key to the chapel.
