The charitable organisation Taller de la Amistad has to add another floor, covering around 250 square metres, to their existing building in order to accommodate the child care tasks currently being carried out in the Giner de los Rios centre in calle Diputación. This is a requirement of the Junta de Andalucia and must be completed by 2014.
The Taller de la Amistad lacks the necessary resources to carry out this task and basically needs the financial assistance of the regional authority. However, the Junta de Andalucia has so far been reluctant to even settle its debts with the Taller de la Amistad.
The Mayor of Nerja has indicated that, as a last resort, the Council could possibly undertake the work, despite the difficult financial climate, but stressed that the charity really needs the help of the Junta de Andalucia in this matter and hopes that requests for assistance for the project will be approached with ‘sensitivity’.
