There are no mechanical fairground attractions this year at the Virgen del Carmen celebrations in Los Boliches, Fuengirola, due to the failure of the operators and Council to reach an agreement on economic matters.
The attraction operators claim that spending by the general public has declined in recent years to such an extent that they can no longer even cover the costs of installation and lighting and asked the Council to reduce its fees for participation in the event.
The Council says the operators signed a contract in 2011 and that, basically, is that. Instead of the mechanical attractions, the Council has installed such things as bouncy castles and kart tracks for the youngsters with prices of between €1 and €2. The attractions will be open from 20:00 to 01:00 each day.
