Christmas lights and Santa Claus

Official Christmas lights only in the main squares of Nerja this year, and a lot less of them, due to a desire by the Council to save money. Santa Claus will, however, still be making his way around town on December 23rd.

Cutback on Christmas lighting

Nerja Council has announced that is cutting back on Christmas lighting this year in order to save costs and energy, restricting lighting in principle to public places plus a few roundabouts.

Christmas lights

Christmas lights this year will be installed in Plaza Cavana, Plaza de la Ermita, Plaza de Andalucía, Plaza Cantarero, the Balcón de Europa, Plaza de Maro and in the Barriada de los Poetas as well as on roundabouts, of which there are now many, and the entrance signs to the town.

It must be over…

Christmas must finally be over, they’ve been taking down the decorations around town today. Must have suffered a bit from ‘builder’s syndrome’, the inability to finish on time.

Some Christmas lights withdrawn from sale

Twenty-two models of lights used for decorating Christmas trees have been withdrawn from sale in various parts of the country due to safety concerns and have been added to the ‘alert’ list of dangerous products by the consumer protection organisation FACUA-Consumidores en Acción.

The lights are going up

The Christmas lights are being installed on the Balcon de Europa today. At the same time, the palm trees along the walkway down to the promontory are being trimmed. The whole garden area along both sides of the walkway is in the throes of having new plants, shrubs and trees planted. Should look nice when it’s finished.

Let there be lights

Good news, the main streets of Nerja will be lit up for Christmas after all after the Council decided to provide a grant to the organisation Nerja Centro towards their share of the costs of the traditional illuminations.
