Two cops detained in drugs investigation

One current and one former Guardia Civil officer in Mijas, Málaga province, have been detained, allegedly in connection with drugs trafficking. The Internal Affairs Division of the Guardia Civil is carrying out an investigation into the two officers.

According to a study published in the medical journal the Lancet, alcohol is more harmful than heroin or crack. The report is written by Dr King, Dr Lawrence Phillips and Professor David Nutt, the latter being the former UK chief drugs adviser sacked by the government in October 2009.

Drugs haul in Algeciras

Officers from the Agencia Tributaria (Inland Revenue) have intercepted a boat carrying 4.5 tons of hashish and have arrested three crew members on charges of crimes against the public health. The boat, the Phoenix III, was intercepted ten miles off Algeciras. The source and destination of the drugs is not yet known.

Police in Algeriras have detained two 21 year old youths and confiscated 900 kilos of hashish in the latest operation against drugs trafficking in the area.
