Clean-up in preparation for the rains

The Council is carrying out cleaning works at the mouth of the rio Chillar and, at a later stage when the works are adjudicated, at the mouth of the rio Seco.

Storm alert and warning to hikers

The Civil Protection is warning hikers not to walk the rio Chillar, particularly to Los Cahorros, on Thursday August 29th due to the forecast of heavy rains.

Rio Chillar rescue

A Málaga resident had to be rescued on Tuesday night after suffering a fall while walking along the rio Chillar in Nerja, specifically in the Salto Grande area.

New car park on the site of the former cement factory

There is now a new car parking area close to the start of the popular rio Chillar ‘Los Cahorros’ walk. The car park, with space for 63 vehicles, is located on the site of the old Holcim cement factory near the entrance to the former quarry area.

River rescue

Members of the Civil Protection were called out on Sunday afternoon to rescue a woman who injured her leg while walking along the rio Chillar.

Ah well, it was worth a try…

Sad, and of course totally surprised, to relate that the positioning of a small sign at the start of the rio Chillar walkway appears to have had no noticeable effect on the amount of doo doo on the path. I took my eyes off the ground for a moment to admire the view and…squelch. Yuk.

Rivers, roadworks and spelling…

With the bad weather of the past few days, no surprise that the renovation work on calle El Barrio didn’t start this week either. Scheduled for four months, plus the almost inevitable delays and adjustments, they now look likely to encroach upon the start of the summer period.

Rio Chillar rescue

Civil Protection officers carried out the rescue on Wednesday of a man who suffered a fall and lost consciousness during a walking trip up the rio Chillar. The man, a 59 year old from Madrid, was accompanied on the trip by his wife.
