Alleged copper thief electrocuted

A 27 year old man is in the Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Sevilla after being electrocuted while allgedly trying to steal copper wire from an electricity sub-station in Alcalá del Río. The incident occurred at 00:15 on Sunday morning at the sub-station in calle Lavanda. A second alleged robber got away.

New section of SE-40 to be inaugurated today

Today sees the inauguration of the second section of the metropolitan SE-40 highway in Sevilla, the section connecting the A-92 (Sevilla-Granada-Almería) with the A-376 (Utrera).

Search for missing girl in Sevilla

On Sunday, national Police launched a search of the rio Guadalquivir in Sevilla to try and locate 22 year old María Isabel Sierra, a resident of Coria del Río, who disappeared on Thursday. The search has been concentrated on the area between Coria and Puebla  del Río.

Danone plan to close factory in Sevilla

Multinational Danone has announced a restructuring plan which will see 900 jobs go throughout Europe. The Danone factory in Sevilla will close, affecting 90 employees, although the company has stated that staff would be transferred to other centres.

Thieves steal €6,600 from elderly woman

A man and woman have been arrested in Lora del Río for robbing an 82 year old woman of her bank book and withdrawing money from her account on nineteen occasions to a total of €6,600.

Health risks in El Coronil, Sevilla

After 35 days of strikes by the rubbish collectors in El Coronil, Sevilla, three hundred tons of garbage is piled up on the streets and the Ministry of Health has detected eight new areas  where there is a ‘health risk’.

The clean-up begins in Sevilla

The strike by employees of Lipasam, the municipal cleaning service in Sevilla, is over after an agreement was reached on Thursday evening. The unions have accepted a 3.6% pay cut. It is expected to take a week before all the accumulated rubbish is removed from the streets.

No agreement in Sevilla

The first meeting between the unions of the municipal cleaning concessionaire Lipasam and  Sevilla Council has ended without an agreement being reached and the strike now enters its ninth day. An estimated five thousand tons of garbage remain uncollected on the streets.

Rubbish containers set on fire in Sevilla

As the strike by employees of the municipal cleaning company Lipasam enters its seventh day, with 4,200 tons of rubbish piling up in the streets and, as invariably happens during such disputes, containers being burned.

Rubbish mounts up in El Coronil

Around 40 tons of rubbish has accumulated on the streets of El Coronil, Sevila, during fifteen days of strike action by the rubbish collection service. El Coronil has a population of around 5,000 people.
