In the country as a whole. 128 people were arrested on May 1st for not having a valid driving licence.
Amendments to the Penal Code, which criminalised the act of driving a vehicle without a valid driving licence, came into effect on May 1st 2008 and on the first day, 128 people were arrested. Of these, 117 had never had or never even applied for any type of driving licence.
In Málaga city, the past four days has seen 35 people arrested for not having a valid licence. The police have not been making any special controls and all those detained were as a result of checks carried out following the commission of a moving traffic violation.
