ETA’s ‘comando Vizcaya’ targeted in police raids

The Guardia Civil has effectively broken up ETA’s ‘comando Vizcaya’ following a number of arrests last night.

The comando Vizcaya has been the most active of ETA’s terrorist units since the breakdown of the ceasefire in June 2006, being responsible for a number of bombings as well as for the death of Guardia Civil officer Juan Manuel Piñuel.

At least eight people were arrested last night including the alleged head of the Vizcaya unit, Arkaitz Goikoetxea. The police operation was ordered by the Audencia Nacional and the arrests took place in various parts of Vizcaya.

The operation is ongoing and further arrests have not been ruled out.
