Barca through, Atlético bow out

football1Barcelona are through to the quarter finals of the Champions League after a 5-1 win over Lyon, making it 6-3 on aggregate.

Thierry Henry opened the scoring in the 25th minute and then just two minutes later scored a second to take him to fourth place on the all-time list of Champions League goalscorers.

Messi, with a mesmerising run, and Eto’o added two more and it looked like Barcelona were just coasting to victory. The French side pulled one back a couple of minutes later when Makoun rose unmarked to head home a Juninho corner. A busy first half.

The second half saw Lyon on the attack and Juninho pulled another one back, but it wasn’t to be and after Juninho got himself sent off for a second cardable offence, dissent, Keita slotted home a fifth for Barcelona to guarantee victory.

Atlético Madrid headed to FC Porto with an uphill task, having drawn the first match and conceded two away goals.

The match ended 0-0, 2-2 on aggregate, and FC Porto are through to the quarter-finals.
