Málaga Provincial Council has decided to shelve, at least temporarily, the proposed construction of 11 VPO (subsidised) houses in the Campillo de Vidrio area of Nerja, a 694.78 square metre plot of land officially designated as EU-47.
The land for the project was made available to the provincial authorities in November 2000. The Provincial Council say that it does not want to continue building houses when the intended owners are unable to obtain the necessary credit from banks to complete the purchase, as was the case with the VPO houses in La Noria.
Málaga Council say that there are many empty houses as a result of potential owners being unable to obtain credit.
Nerja Council has proposed that the houses be built for lease, rather than sale, to avoid the problems associated with La Noria.
