In the past four years, the number of Northern European athletes using the facilities at the Enrique López Cuenca Sports Stadium has grown considerably, with over 1,000 expected during the current season.
The original intention of the Tourism and Sport programme was to attract people during the ‘off-season’, but the numbers have been such that the facilities have had to be opened even on public holidays. During the Easter holiday week, some 200 athletes made the journey to Nerja in order to train.
The stadium has become popular with athletes training for Olympic, World or European championships
